Dewsall Court - a luxury countryside retreat wedding venue

I had the absolute pleasure of visiting Dewsall Court in Herefordshire just before Christmas and I just had to share my experience at this magical wedding venue with impressive WOW factor’s.

Dewsall Court isn’t just another wedding venue it’s an exclusive-use country estate that feels like stepping into a luxury home in the countryside, yet with the flexibility and breadth of spaces to create a completely bespoke wedding celebration. You even have 11 different ceremony locations to choose from – yes 11!!

Set in 12 acres of rolling Herefordshire countryside with views of the Black Mountains and surrounded by Duchy of Cornwall land. It is a true rural escape for couples who want privacy and scenic beauty.  The present owners are the first people to own Dewsall and live in it since the reign of Queen Anne.

A wedding at Dewsall encompasses the entire estate which includes the house, grounds, barns, and unique spaces all to yourselves for one or more nights, which fosters that immersive, all-weekend celebration. Enjoy pure luxury with your closest friends and family the day before your wedding day to really kick start the celebrations.

The wedding venue champions locally sourced food and sustainable practices, appealing to couples who care about ethical celebrations.

I found the venue & wedding spaces to be unpretentious yet inviting and warm through soft furnishings, subtle lighting and a real English countryside feel. Exclusivity at its finest.

The Main house

Quintessentially British is what comes to mind as you wander through the impressive high ceiling rooms within the main house. The main house & cottage barn combined can sleep up to 28 guests.

Staying onsite means the celebration becomes a multi-day experience with welcome suppers & departure brunches. A trend we are seeing more and more and one I adore. It’s such a special time in your life why not go from the standard one-day wedding to three days of pure celebration.

Dewsall offers sophistication without stuffiness and luxurious comfort at every turn. The main house has an intimate conservatory that overlooks the gardens. Picture a candlelit supper in here before the main event. The perfect way to bring everyone together after a day of travelling.

Each bedroom is individually styled with cozy nooks and rich character.

The Dewsall Suite is typically where the couple choose to sleep with deep countryside views, your very own romantic retreat. The bathtub in here came from a Scottish castle and has been named Big Bertha.

Bedroom quirks

Part of the house was used as a Granary, so the beams are almost their original honey colour as for hundreds of years they were only wooden slated windows which gave good ventilation.

One of the bedrooms used to house the families black horse Rufus. The lambs and sheep were also kept in here.

There is a Tapestry bedroom named after the 18th Century framed Tapestries on the wall.

All the bedrooms are tastefully unique, and each one offers more and more opportunities to wow your guests.

wedding Ceremony options:

There are many outdoor settings, to hold your ceremony, across the estate which is rare and big selling point. Here are just a few:

The West Lawn is an expansive lawn with panoramic views of rolling hills and mountains, ideal for show-stopping summer ceremonies.

The Lake Field is picture-perfect lake, which is gorgeous for romantic vows or relaxed, personal ceremonies.

The Church Lawn & On-Site Ancient Church allow couples to marry in this charming historic church just beyond the garden gate for a classic, storybook feel.

On way to the church, you will talk through the Temple Gardens where the present owners discovered a Roman Burial Site which led to Birmingham University camping out to excavate further. That’s something not everyone can say about their wedding venue.

If you are an avid reader or love history, then you’ll be keen to know that the colourful Duke of Chandos was born at Dewsall and christened in the church. The Duke of Chandos was the great, great uncle of Jane Austen!!

The Main Event - The Wainhouse Barn

A modern meets period renovated barn that can host up to 170 guests for dinner and dancing. This is where you and your guests will head after your drink’s reception. It’s an impressive structure in its own right with original period features. Adding your own sprinkle of personality in the form of florals and décor will elevate this space into something extraordinary.

For me I found the barn to mirror a medieval banquet with large wooden doors and an open space designed to impress. Here you can enjoy the delicious in-house catering options and a bar in the Wainhouse Barn. Your evening dancefloor is carefully partitioned away so as to keep it a surprise for your guests.

The Wainhouse really has an evening party feel to it yet opportunity to add your own unique style. Take a look at some inspiration photos of this epic space below:

If you are looking for ways to elevate your cocktail hour after a hearty meal, then look no further as this venue even has its very own tree house. Blankets, soft lighting and comfort for your guests to escape to.

And there’s more.

The After-Party Den

A secret cellar beneath the house turns into a private party space with its own bar, lighting and music setup. This is ideal if you know you and your guests, staying in the house, will want to keep the festivities on going late into the night.

Something else that Dewsall really prides themselves on is their food. In-house chefs craft menus around locally sourced and seasonal produce preserving quality and sustainability.

To conclude:

Country romance meets luxury & exclusivity with built-in wow factors: Lakeside ceremonies, character filled bedrooms and sunset views all make outstanding photo backdrops. The hidden gems for me are the Nest treehouse hideaway and the After-Party Den which will surely add unforgettable moments to your wedding day.

This wedding venue oozes potential for creative freedom with so many different spaces, indoor and outdoor.

From my brief interactions with the team so far, they are friendly, warm and welcoming. They really have put so much love and care into the whole property and all the grounds – it really shows when you walk round the immaculate gardens.

They even pick fresh flowers from the garden to decorate the main house on your arrival – its personal touches like this that really set them apart and I can see why they have become such a successful wedding venue in recent years.

It’s a magical place that’s definitely worth a visit if you love history, British culture and a home from home but with luxury comfort at its heart.

You’ll be pleased to know that they still have some availability remaining for 2026 (including some peak summer dates) and they are currently running some promotions. It's not too late to book Dewsall for your 2026 Wedding or Event.
