How to personalise your Wedding to the MAX!!

Bring personality and fun ideas to your wedding so it screams who you are throughout.

Do you want your whole lives to radiate throughout your wedding day with touches of you at every corner? I am talking about everything from your values, style, friendships, family trips, memories, experiences, your passions in live. Bringing all these life elements into your wedding day to make it truly unique to you. This is where personalised is key and here are some options you may want to think about:

Handmade Ideas:

Pallet decorated with bold white letters in the form of a wedding day timeline. Decorated with white and pink flowers.

Rustic & Radiant

It’s not for everyone as it can be time consuming but also very rewarding. Handmade touches makes guests feel more connected to you and your wedding day. An example from my own wedding was designing and creating my own order of the day and table plan both using pallets, yes it took a while, but the finished result was something truly unique and special to me. I loved the outdoor plant vibe and wanted to use plant labels in some way so wrote all my guests names on here and arranged them on a pallet with pictures of me and the better half, showing our 9-year journey together. My DIY dad attached large wooden hinges to the back so they were free standing and displayed throughout. We had lots of interactions with guests around my masterpiece (perhaps not going to win the Turner Prize anytime soon but something I was very proud of).

I have planned two weddings this year where the flower arranging was done by the family. It actually brings a tear to my eye knowing that these families went above and beyond to help the couple, using their ideas and vision and thus creating beautiful handmade arrangements. We all know families want to be involved and even though the thought of handing them these reins can be daunting; the family spirit and support can be truly heart-warming.

Stationery & Favours:

Your table names are a great way to add a bit of you as a couple to your wedding day. These could be places you’ve been, pets, favourite bars, musicians you love or have seen live together. My favourite was tables named after places around Birmingham where they had a special memory for the couple, with one table named 'Floozie in the Jacuzzi' if you’re from Birmingham you know exactly what I am talking about.

If like me you are conscious of that carbon footprint and want to reduce waste on your wedding day then sustainable stationery is a great alternative. This incorporates your values as a person into your wedding. Check out these guys: Beloved Creations

Invites, menus, table names and place cards all created on biodegradable paper that have small seeds all the way through it so you can plant it afterwards!! Absolutely love this idea.

Favours are becoming less and less popular but I still think the more personalised ones remain a hit for guests. How about personal messages to all your guests in an envelope for them to open either all at once, during the speeches, or for them to take away. You can do them as couples to reduce the amount and it gives you a chance to say some personal thanks to each guest. Maybe include specific memories and how they helped you become the people you are today.

Theme:

Personalised can also be your overall theme, I planned a wedding where the couples love of peacocks was everywhere. The décor colours, the cake, the buttonholes, stationery and even the wedding dress – it was so beautifully done and created such an uplifting experience for the guests. Some other fabulous theme ideas I’ve come across:

  1. Couples’ favourite colours incorporated into every little detail like groomsmen socks, ribbons and guestbook pen colours.

  2. Love of records and music, table names made out of old vinyl with vinyl décor and vinyl guestbook.

  3. Couple who first met in the Alpes and share a love of snowboarding. The backdrop to their bar was their own snowboards and ski’s. Table names were named after all the bars in the Alpes town they lived in and had multiple dates in.

These touches make you feel like you are walking into a room knowing exactly who’s wedding it is, so your guests feel connected to you. Picking a personalised theme can be as simple as how you want you and your guest to feel.

Here are some inspirational theme words to leave with you:

  1. Fun

  2. Party - the bigger the better

  3. Sustainable

  4. Inclusive

  5. Relaxed & chilled

  6. Rustic / Garden Party

  7. Festival / Musical

  8. Colourful
