Trendy Wedding Catering for Fun, Modern Couples

If I was financially able to eat out every night without gaining weight, I would probably be out most nights!! I love food but I especially love hospitality and the warmth of being in a space where all your food and drink needs are taken care of. Don’t get me wrong I do actually really enjoy cooking, my speciality is making it up as I go along adding a bit of this and a bit of and 9/10 I am pretty pleased with the end result.

So as a food obsessed maniac, I just had to give you an insight into some epic food and drinks ideas that couples are loving at the moment.  For me initial food and drink wow moments come from the visuals. A buffet table with lots of height, flower displays weaved onto the table or vibrant coloured platters and bowls to serve the food on. Visuals draw you in and as they say we all eat with our eyes first.

Food Trucks & Street Food Suppliers

We have to start with food trucks and street food suppliers. These can be a very cool addition as they look amazing from converted horse trailers to push bikes with ice cream or prosecco bars on the back. They offer a relaxed, cool, festival/backyard vibe to a wedding day. Street food vendors are hugely popular across the UK and right here in Birmingham we have fab places such as @digbethdiningclub @hockleysocialclub and @herbertsyard. How epic to have these insanely delicious street food trucks as your wedding.

My mouth is watering and I am already considering my dinner options, standard thought for me. You could have your favourite plus your partners so no need to compromise, why not have them both. There are however lots of considerations when booking food trucks in terms of access, power and also queues. We are used to queuing in the UK and some would say we kinda like it however when you’ve got hungry guests and so much more planned you don’t want to be spending hours queuing for food.

As a wedding planner we are highly experienced in navigating this conversation prior with caterers asking the right questions and being able to foresee potential problems in advance to ensure a smooth and delicious outcome.

Family Style Sharing Platters

These are a great way to bring a relaxed and communal feel to your day. Trending at the moment is the sweet spot between seating all your guests traditionally with set seats and a table plan but not offering the standard three course meal which for some can be too formal and limiting. How about still being able to design that beautiful table plan and place cards so you can revel in love surrounded by all your guests and then add in some sharing platters delivered straight to the centre of the tables offering your guests choice. Options could be BBQ sharing platters with grilled salmon, steak or halloumi, Italian grazing boards, Fried chicken, Mediterranean delights – anything can be turned into family style sharing.

Fusion cuisines

How about incorporating all of the above and adding different cuisine stations. A Mediterranean grazing selection for during your drinks reception with sourdough breads, hummus, tzatziki, olives, sundried tomatoes, grilled veggies and cold meat platters. Sharing platters for main meal from BBQ highlights to Pad Thai and dumplings. Evening food stations with fried chicken or cauliflower, juicy burgers, loaded fries with buttermilk chicken or Greek souvlaki skewers. The options are endless and you are in control of what you choose, dry hire venues or venues that allow outside catering really give you so much more flexibility to personalise your menu.

Drinks stations

There are so many inventive drink stations coming through right now. Here’s a few:

  • Bars created from old whiskey barrels with planks of wood as the bar top.

  • Display your spirits on a bookcase or a chest of draws.

  • At my wedding the barn we already had a dusty old workbench in the corner that was clearly well used as a workbench and not a lot else. We repurposed this adding a new detachable top, personalised décor and hessian lining. Anything can be used and upcycled to be in keeping with your theme.

  • Hanging colourful buckets, wheelbarrows, baths or water troughs all filled with your favourite tipple.

I hope I have managed to make you feel very hungry!! If you are looking for any further advice on any of the above, I am more than happy to continue talking all things food & drink. Ask me a question.
